How do you identify?

Identity. Humans are social, tribalist creatures, and evolution has made it so we find company within each other in order to survive. United we stand, divided we fall.

The stupidest thing I've ever seen

I just watched this video and it made me so furious I thought 'I'm gonna write a fucking blog post on it.' I'm also really hyper because I've just finished plowing my way through season 6 of Game of Thrones.

Dying my hair

Since I was really young I’ve had an obsession with red hair. No idea why, I’ve just always thought it looks gorgeous. Since I was 15 (5 years ago) I’ve been dying my hair; mostly red but have also done pink and green.

Black women and weave

I find it funny and ironic that back in secondary school I’d get girls saying I was ‘black on the outside white on the inside’, yet they were the ones wearing white women’s hair on their head.

When a woman rapes a man (story)

Disclaimer: this is entirely a work of fiction. Any reference to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Contains explicit and potentially upsetting content.

Forcing someone into sex against their will is rape. It doesn’t matter if the perpetrator is male or female. Male rape victims are taken less seriously as men are assumed to ‘always want sex’ and can be accused of being ‘pussies’ or ‘faggots’ if they didn’t want it. Fact is, although men tend to have stronger sex drives than women, they don’t want sex 24/7 or want to fuck everything that they see. Here’s a short fictional excerpt of mine; a situation when a woman rapes a man.

Least favourite films ever

These are all films that I’ve seen that have either bored me to death or horrified me.

Game of Thrones and Religious Fanaticism

(Contains spoilers.) One of the many things I love about GOT is its honest portrayal of human behaviour. The show really expresses the dangers of religious extremism and taking things too far. Even in this make-believe world, everyone believes that ‘their’ God; be it the Seven Gods, the Lord of Light, the Many Faced God or the Drowned God, is the ‘true’ God.

Top 15 Favourite Non-Fiction Books

Here is a list of my top 15 favourite non-fiction books. Also see favourite fiction books:

The God Delusion – Richard Dawkins. Brilliant, informative and filled with humour. When I read this aged 16 it cemented my stance from agnosticism to atheism. I think everyone 'uncertain' about their stance on theism/atheism should read this book. It is very well written and very funny and not a terribly difficult read. Some of the sciency-specific stuff confused me because I'm not a scientist, but generally his arguments are well placed and back up by facts.

#metoo and 'rape culture'

I have mixed feelings about the recent #metoo campaign. On the one hand I think it’s great to raise awareness about victims of harassment, rape and assault. On the other hand I think people need to be careful about their definitions and not ‘trivialise’ actual cases of rape by making false or incorrect accusations. Making allegations against someone is always very serious and false rape accusations can destroy lives. Moreover, I think that if you've been a victim of something it is stronger to move forward and grow from the experience rather than live with the mentality that you're forever a victim.

Why do people do drugs?

Contains drug-related images.

I believe there are two main reasons. One: to have fun and socialise with friends. Two: out of depression and nihilistic hopelessness and a need to escape. In their simplest forms, drug use can boil down to these two extremes; happiness vs misery.

What's wrong with incest?

It’s gross and creepy. Hold your pantyhose, keep your balls on, I’m not saying I agree with incest. The point of discussion is to look deeper into things and ask ‘why’, as opposed to brush things off as ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’

Astrology and New Age Stuff

One of my favourite YouTubers, Jaclyn Glenn, recently released a web series called ‘The Skeptic’s Guide to Wellness.’ It’s a five episode series with each episode lasting 10-12 mins. Currently there is only one season but she is considering a second. In the series she explores alternative methods of healing to traditional medicine such as crystal healing and hypnotherapy. Generally she is sceptical of most, finding that most of these therapies work through the placebo effect. Whilst some do have a relaxing effect, there is no solid evidence to prove any of these therapies as safe alternatives to Western Medicine.

Malcolm X vs Martin Luther King

So it’s Black History Month (in the UK; might be different elsewhere). I don’t agree with the concept of Black History Month, just like I don’t agree with International Women’s Day or Gay Pride. I don’t take ‘pride’ in being black, and I don’t see why ‘Black History’ isn’t incorporated into History anyway. Why should it be separate? Plus we all know BHM is mostly about slavery.

Is murder always wrong?

I know what you're thinking. Of course murder is always wrong. At face value; murder, cheating, lying, stealing - these things all seem terrible. But I don't believe that ethics is clear-cut, and I don't believe in absolutist morality. When you look beneath the surface and take in situational relevance, everything changes.

Lightskin vs Darkskin vs Blonde vs Brunette vs Bullshit

I have dark skin. If you look at me, my skin colour would be on the darker end of the human skin tone spectrum. My skin is brown, not fair. I'm also brunette, but my hair is dyed red. (As you can see from my posing header picture).

Being a musician is hard

I’ve spent most of my life hearing nearly every Tom, Dick and Harriet tell me that music is not a viable career option and that it won’t get me anywhere in life. For some reason – maybe because I’m now 20, not 14, and go to a top music school – the tables have shifted. Now the person doubting myself and wondering if I should go to Law School instead (never!) is me.

Am I a Nihilist?

Existential nihilism is the belief that nothing in the world holds inherent meaning or value. We’re here because we’re here, the universe has no meaning and life is purposeless.

A Closer Look at the Classic Disney Princesses

The Classic Trio of the Disney ladies – Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella – are often criticised by feminists for being passive ‘damsels in distress’ and doing fuck all. While I prefer more modern Disney just because I prefer modern movies in general, I do adore all Disney films, and Cinderella is one of my favourites. Let’s take a look at the girls and their movies.

Can you raise a kid at 16?

Can you raise a kid at 16? Can you provide child support? Can you provide healthcare?
This is the lame argument some people try to state when discussing whether or not sixteen year olds should have sex.

The Seven Deadly Sins

I find the 7 deadly sins interesting in terms of looking at the ‘extremes’ of human behaviour. As with everything, we need to maintain balance. We all have these 'sins', but we can keep them right-sized to the point where they stay healthy and don’t take over us.
