Patrick Star is an arsehole

I've loved Spongebob since I was a child; it's one of my favourite shows. But I've always been a bit uncertain about Patrick. I've been watching some interesting theory videos on Patrick from Spongebob. There are a lot of theories that suggest he is a psychopath. As someone who has researched a lot on psychopaths and read books/seen films featuring them, I can confidently assume he isn't one, as psychopaths are cold and calculating and Patrick is often portrayed as warm and fun. It is possible he is a sociopath, or is just a manipulative not-so-intelligent person. There is a theory that suggests he has multiple personality disorder, which I will link below.

Has #metoo turned into a witch hunt?

The #metoo movement started out as women speaking out against rape, harassment, coercion and sexual misconduct. I have a whole blog post talking about a horrible sexual experience happening to me (without naming the person involved). This was due to the case Harvey Weinstein pushing women into sexual acts so he could give them work, which is obviously not ok. However, now it seems everyday there's a news story of a man being accused of sexual assault. Where's the line between truth and fabrication? Is this now a Hollywood witch hunt?

Avoiding Toxic People

We all have our flaws. I can be arrogant, needy, people-pleasing and exhibit low self-esteem. I am a person in recovery, which pushes me to look at my short comings and work through them. Not everyone likes looking at themselves and seeing the parts that need to be worked on.

Vinz was curt and earnest (poem)

Vinz was curt and earnest
A rather dapper young fellow
He enjoyed carving out crafts of wonder
And sticking them on large pillows.
He poured his heart out to the maid
Who replied by looking solemn and staid
and said he needed to get laid
or clamber out of the window.
At least, that was his interpretation.

Best Movie Villains

The best villains are ones that have a motive for why they behave the way they do. They're typically driven by greed, self-interest, and some sort of power, and have little to no regard for others. We can usually empathize with them or see what drives them to their behaviours. Post may contain spoilers.

Politics and Personalities

How much does your politics affect your personality? Does it affect it at all? Does it influence how you treat people? This is an interesting topic a couple friends and I were having a week or so ago.

Stranger Things and Stephen King

I’ve recently watched Stranger Things, this brilliant crime-thriller about a little boy that goes missing and a sinister secret government agency. There is SOOO MUCH Stephen King-esque stuff thrown in there, it’s awesome. (As it happens I'm not the only one who realised this; I'll link some posts that also mention King references). This post may contain spoilers. Am going to write down names of Stephen King books and where similar situations in the show that have probably been inspired have happened.

Why Moana is one of Disney's best films

I love Moana. It's an incredible movie with a spirited, kind heroine, and breaks away from the 'fairtytale' trope to focus on adventure and finding yourself. It speaks about the environment, humanity and how we treat each other. Here's why I think it's one of Disney's best.

Oh, the internet. It used to be a place where stupidity came to die. Now it's the breeding ground for idiocracy.

The End of the Fucking World (Zari's Version)

I blitzed my way through this show in one sitting. If you haven't seen it on Netflix, do. I liked it a lot, but as is the way of fanfiction, I've decided to write my own darker, shorter version with less of the 'sentiment.' I do keep to the same premise and similar stuff to the early episodes, but it ends up being darker and more twisted. What I write shouldn't spoil the show as it's not actually the same, but if you want to watch the show first before reading this, go ahead.

The craft of writing

I'm a pretty good writer, to toot my own horn. It's the one thing in the world I'm best at (besides babbling about Game of Thrones). Writing has always come naturally to me. I can write songs, stories, prose, poetry. When those at my uni give feedback on my music they tend to comment on my lyricism being good or liking my lyrics.

16 Favourite Couples from Film and TV

I'm not a fan of the romance/rom-com genre, but I like romance in movies or shows where it's done well. Where it's believable and hasn't just been 'thrown in there'; the couple work well together and have some sort of friendship as well as a romantic bond, and the whole movie/show isn't just about their romance. Probably not all the couples I'll mention won't adhere to that, but let's see the ones I like anyway. (May contain spoilers).

The Age Factor

Mick Jagger is 74, and his current girlfriend is 22. Doubtlessly most want to hurl when they hear this. I can't imagine introducing my parents to a partner who is older than they are. Jagger's girlfriend is younger than his older kids; they must be embarrassed as hell.

Scary Stuff

I’ve never been a fan of horror films and books. Growing up they always scared the shit out of me. I found the film The woman in black terrifying and hated it. Scary stuff aside, I don’t think horror is very interesting. The stories are usually the same; people being possessed by demons or evil spirits, needing to kill them, usually failing in the end. I love drama, comedy, psychological thrillers or fantasy, but not horror.

Why do people smoke?

I have the odd fag occasionally, but I'm hardly a chain smoker. Growing up, my parents were fiercely anti-smoking, particularly my dad. I can understand why; smoking is extremely harmful to one's health. It can cause lung cancer, bad breath, mess up your teeth, a chronic cough, and is all round damaging for your immune system. Plus it's highly expensive. So why do people do it?

Sexy Badass Women

Unless you're living under a rock, you'll have heard of the terms 'sexualisation' and 'objectification.' They're typically used by feminists claiming that women in media are presented in ways that accentuate their sexual features, playing to the 'male gaze', thus reducing women to sex objects.

What defines success?

Success is something that our society strives for. There are books all about the topic; Think and Grow Rich, The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, The Law of Success, The 4-Hour Work Week. There are probably people who have more books about making money and becoming successful than they spend their time actually working on themselves to become wealthy and successful.

Jimmy Doogooder and the Piranha Kids (story)

Written 25th March 2016. Satirical short story inspired by 'Lord of the Flies.'

Set in a playground on a Friday afternoon. A group of ten year old children are playing in a playground, but four of them enter and think that there is too much chaos and want to bring order and make them play the games they want, by taking over the entire playground. These are The Piranha Kids. Meanwhile, Jimmy Doogooder and his best friend Linda Left-Eye dislike The Piranha Kids and want to stop them, but Jimmy gets distracted as he realises he likes Virginia Sweetmund and wants her to be his girlfriend.
