Vicky Angel: A metaphor for schizophrenia?

I just re-read a Jacqueline Wilson book I haven't read in years, called Vicky Angel. At the time of reading it - I must have been nine or ten - I took it very literally. 'Vicky Angel' is about a girl named Jade whose best friend Vicky dies in an accident and then comes back as a ghost. It's clear now that Jade is just hallucinating Vicky's ghost out of grief, but while reading the book I thought about going one step further. My theory is: what if Vicky was never real at all, and Jade has schizophrenia? What if Vicky was Jade's imaginary alter-ego - like Tyler Durden in Fight Club - and represents how Jade wishes to see herself?

Thoughts on cat-calling

I've mentioned cat-calling in some of my other blog posts, and this post may include different opinions from views I've mentioned previously as ideas are always evolving. A random facebook post I saw earlier from some girl made me think more about this topic. She mentioned that she had been dressed in clothing appropriate for the weather as it was a hot day, and that that had garnered unwanted attention from a few dudes which made her irritated.

The Little Mermaid: 1st vs 2nd film

Growing up I loved Disney films, and I still do. I adored both the first and second Little Mermaid movies. Earlier I watched them both in reverse order; I wanted to watch the second one anyway, and then felt like watching the first one. In my mind it worked like the first one was a prequel. This post is gonna compare em!

Confused Uncertainty (poem)

As lightning struck the tower
His hands were cupped to his mouth.
“I have to tell you about the future!”
“I have to tell you about the future!”

Reading between the lines

Do you ever struggle to understand what people mean or feel that you take things too literally? This is something I only recently came to fully grasp based on how I interact with others and how I sometimes mis-read situations. I am someone who is very straightforward and black-and-white; what you see is what you get. Yet adults (and I say adults because children are straightforward like me) tend to speak in some sort of code; they're very subtle, they don't say what they mean, or they may look a certain way but act another. It really messes with my head.

10 Favourite scenes in Game of Thrones

I'm currently reading 'A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold' and loving it. It's got me thinking about my favourite scenes throughout the series. As we wait for the final season that approaches next year, here are my best moments to date in this incredible show that I am obsessed with. Will contain spoilers. Mental Health and the NHS

Like most British citizens, I support our National Health Service. But it is no surprise to anyone that it is not without fault, such as when it comes to matters of mental illness. Lots of people across the country with mental health problems (myself included) are put on long waiting lists for illnesses such as depression, anxiety, OCD or personality disorders, due to a high demand and not enough funding.

Reviewing Black Panther

I've seen Black Panther twice at the cinema since it came out and loved it. I thought the second time it was even better. I know there have been various reviews on the movie; this is just my take on it. Will contain spoilers. Will make more sense if you've seen the movie.

Roosh the Douche

So I just read this article Roosh V wrote called 'Sex Has Become An Obsession'. For context, it would make more sense to read the article first and then this post so I've linked it above in red.

Water (poem)

Trickling over sensuous tastebuds
Moulded teardrop of flowing space
Rolling around its carved interior
filled with moistened perfection.
Succulent creamy peace of clarity
serene tilted blue poignant delight
shaped to slither across the river
Entangle to which oceans seek.
Volcanoes shall not breach the heat
of echoing reflections that pour from above.
Heaven does no shame, put out this flame
Glide with rolls of sliding sweat
sparkle forever in the field of need.
